On the fence with GA Governor Primary Pick

I’m on the fence between voting for Karen Handel or Eric Johnson in Tuesday’s primary vote for Georgia Governor. As I said on Facebook, no other candidates are worthy of my vote. I once considered Ray McBerry last year but I quickly realized he was nuts and does not represent my values.

If I read some accounts, Handel isn’t as conservative as she comes across but does that really matter to me? Well, here’s my thing. I met Sonny Perdue before he became governor and I liked him and would have voted for him if I hadn’t already moved back to Florida. But now I can clearly see that Sonny wasn’t the best governor. If I do vote for Handel, I don’t want to regret not voting for Johnson down the road. Even if Johnson loses, I would know that I voted for the better candidate. I’ve heard and read good things about Johnson but I just don’t think he has the star power to win against the worst enemy of Georgia, King Roy the Rat.

Help me decide.

Georgia Political Media List

Just in case you didn’t have it already, here is a pretty good list of political reporters/bloggers and other whatnots in the state of Georgia. All courtesy of a clueless staffer at Doug MacGinnitie for Secretary of State.

Five Years Ago Today, Terri Schiavo Dies After Almost Two Weeks Without Food or Water

Five years ago today, March 31, 2005, Terri Schindler Schiavo died. By the order of Judge George W. Greer, Terri died a slow barbaric death by starvation and dehydration over a period of almost two weeks.

We have been posting stories of the events that occurred on each of those days not only in respect for Terri’s memory, but a reminder that in this moment countless people are suffering slow, agonizing deaths in hospice, nursing homes, and hospitals in America and around the world.

The OX vs. The Rat. The animated video

The Ox vs. King Roy The Rat – I love it!

Full script:
EYES ONLY

The Rat vs. the Ox

GIRLS VOICE:
Heeeees back…..
NARRATOR:

He can’t let go of the idea of power

His liberal, anti business, anti, education, anti agriculture policies were rejected by Georgia
But…

GIRLS VOICE:
Heeeees back….

NARRATOR:
He admits he did not listen to Georgia

He admits he was impatient with Georgia

He admits he did not want to explain things to Georgia

He wanted everything his way

He alone changed our flag

He alienated our teachers

He expanded our government

And now?

GIRLS VOICE:
Heeeees back….

NARRATOR:
For even more.

Who is this that let all this happen?

Who let our beloved state collapse by keeping his special interest friends and Party in power?

Who put politics ahead of the people?

Some just call him King Roy – the Rat!

He did let the power of the Gold Dome go to his head

He did forget the people

But, he did not forget the lust for power

Who can stop King Roy –the Rat?

Who is strong enough to defeat King Roy – the Rat?

Who is strong enough to protect Georgia from King Roy – the Rat and his liberal big government policies?

THE OX

The Ox has been on duty for Georgia

When there was disaster – the Ox was there. Strong enough to fix the problem, graceful enough to care for the people.

When Georgians need an advocate for consumers – the Ox was there. Strong enough to right the wrong graceful enough to care for the people.

When Georgia needed a champion for conservative government – the Ox was there. Strong enough to oppose the special interest, graceful enough to care for the people.

THE OX

Loud enough to say NO to King Roy – the Rat

Graceful enough to have a servants heart and care for the people

The Rat is back to bring liberalism to Georgia.

The Ox is the one who is strong enough to stop the rat.

The Rat is back to raise taxes

The Ox says that may work in California but not Georgia

The Rat is back to oppose Georgia teachers and students

The Ox says that may work in New York but not Georgia

The Rat is here to open Georgia up to the Obama liberals in Washington DC

The Ox says Obama may want that but Georgia does not

The Rat is here to expand state government

The Ox says that may work in France but not Georgia

VOICE:

It has been asked what is stronger than the Ox? Georgia conservatives know when it comes to protecting us and fighting for the Ronald Reagan philosophy of Faith, family, and freedom only The Ox is strong enough for Georgia.

Georgia knows the real question is who is stronger than the rat and Georgia knows only The Ox can stop the rat.

New to blogroll – FairTaxSOWEGA.com

I’ve started reading FairTaxSOWEGA.com in my spare time. The fair tax would hurt my fiancée’s accounting business but I believe it is the solution to all of our tax woes. I’ll be learning more over the next few months.

Tell a politician what you really think

Send anonymous emails or phone text.

I found this great little website called BitchOGram.com. Send an anonymous email, phone text or post card to anyone and tell them what you really think of them. In this case, send it to your favorite or least favorite politician. Isn’t this just the coolest concept? Free Speech be Heard!

You can choose different backgrounds and really take some time to create a meaningful, yet totally anonymous message to the recipient. I can only imagine the frequent bloggers and commenters over at Peach Pundit would love to use this service on certain gubernatorial candidates.

Friendly Neighborhood Starbucks on Hwy 120

My friendly neighborhood Starbucks on Georgia Hwy 120 (next to the “stinky” Kroger) has been a good place to spot politicos and pundits lately. Just yesterday I spotted John Albers, who is running for State Senate District 56. Also in the crowd was Nicole Barry who reminded me I’m not too old to still be considered a Young Republican. And as I was leaving I saw Rep. Harry Geisinger, R-48, picking up some Mexican food across the parking lot.

Just about two weeks ago I saw the notorious Bill Simon at the same location. So it sounds like this Starbucks might be the new place to hang out and talk politics. Too bad I don’t drink coffee…

Georgia Politics and Barbecue

As you can see in the pictures from the previous post, I attended today’s 14th Annual Fulton County Republican Party BBQ. It was a chance for me to meet some of the candidates face to face and talk with staffers and supporters, some of whom I have known for 14 years. Last month, I attended the Gwinnett County GOP BBQ and let me say how thankful I was today that the event was indoors and air conditioned.

I enjoyed spending a few minutes with my old boss and his wife, Rusty and Jan Paul. I worked on the PR side with Rusty many years ago. Glad to hear their family is doing well. I also spent a few minutes chatting with Roswell Mayor Jere Wood, Sam Olens, Ray McBerry, Eric Johnson, John Albers and Bill Simon from PoliticalToolKit.com.

Next week, it’s the Cobb GOP BBQ on the 4th of July. Oh and by the way, today’s food was great.

Are print newspapers still relevant in Georgia Politics?

I cancelled my subscription to the Atlanta Journal and Constitution this morning. I read everything online and I’ve noticed the annoying pile of unopened papers sitting by my front door. With all of the information online, why do I need to keep giving them my money just so I can throw it away?

When the customer service rep asked why I would want to give up all that information and Sunday coupons, I responded I don’t use coupons. But in truth, I’m a savvy internet marketer. I find tons of relevant coupons online everyday – from groceries to vitamins to franchise restaurants. I get all my technical information from the interwebs – Facebook, Twitter, Fox, even AJC.com

The only items worth reading are political stories by Jim Galloway and he posts his stories instantly on Facebook and Twitter. I certainly don’t read the AJC commentaries as the editorial staff is full of wacky liberals with no clue outside the perimeter.

I feel bad as a former journalist for contributing to the demise of print newspapers but I just don’t see how they benefit me anymore.

So, I ask you, political pundits, candidates and others, are newspapers relevant any longer? Do you still heavily rely on endorsements so you can’t give up on them? Besides the occasional breaking news story about candidates, are the cash-strapped newsrooms still effective in Georgia Politics?
