On the fence with GA Governor Primary Pick

I’m on the fence between voting for Karen Handel or Eric Johnson in Tuesday’s primary vote for Georgia Governor. As I said on Facebook, no other candidates are worthy of my vote. I once considered Ray McBerry last year but I quickly realized he was nuts and does not represent my values.

If I read some accounts, Handel isn’t as conservative as she comes across but does that really matter to me? Well, here’s my thing. I met Sonny Perdue before he became governor and I liked him and would have voted for him if I hadn’t already moved back to Florida. But now I can clearly see that Sonny wasn’t the best governor. If I do vote for Handel, I don’t want to regret not voting for Johnson down the road. Even if Johnson loses, I would know that I voted for the better candidate. I’ve heard and read good things about Johnson but I just don’t think he has the star power to win against the worst enemy of Georgia, King Roy the Rat.

Help me decide.

Sharon Cooper Earns Legislative Leadership Award

July 16, 2010

REP. COOPER EARNS LEGISLATIVE LEADERSHIP AWARD FOR SERVICE TO PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

East Cobb Rep. Sharon Cooper was honored Thursday (July 15) for her legislative leadership by the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities.

The award is given to those who have distinguished themselves through work that positively impacts the lives of individual citizens with developmental disabilities and their families.

The Council cited Rep. Cooper’s “staunch advocacy as a nurse and caregiver and her work on the Nurse Practice Act (HB 1040)” in presenting the award. The bill, which became law this year, makes it easier for people with disabilities to live independently.

“I am honored to be recognized by this group that does tremendous work in enhancing the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their families,” Rep. Cooper said.

Rep. Cooper, chairman of the prestigious Health and Human Services Committee, is serving her seventh term in the state house, and was a major factor in the State House’s Republican takeover in 2004.

The award was presented at the Making A Difference Annual Appreciation Dinner in Atlanta sponsored by the GCDD which honors the progress being made to enhance community life for people with disabilities.

Doug MacGinnitie’s campaign cannot Spell

I love my job as a critic. Press releases should be spell checked. In fact, the last political press release I made fun of was, OH MY, it was Doug MacGinnitie!

Here is the latest beauty. A headline no less.

Kemp’s negative attacks are uproductive

John Albers is no doubt the best candidate for GA Senate District 56 and now my father’s favorite organization in the world has endorsed Albers – The VFW, Post 7583 in Roswell.

Bill Mitiu, Commander of the Roswell VFW said, “It is with great pleasure that I, my fellow combat veterans and VFW members endorse John Albers for State Senator of District 56. John has been a great supporter of the VFW Post in Roswell and I know he will be a great Senator and continue to be a leading advocate for Veterans rights”.

This huge announcement along with the endorsement of the immensely popular Senator Moody gives us the continued momentum to win the primary on July 20th and serve as the next state senator from District 56.

Why Politics as usual and Politicians are losing

Guest post by John Albers, leading candidate for State Senate District 56.

Voters all over our great nation are tired of the same old politics. I am too! Special elections held Tuesday, May 18th confirm ongoing frustration so many of us are discussing around the kitchen table.

During the past 12 months, we have seen a complete rejection of politicians for fresh faces, failed policies for proven leadership, and a bureaucratic mindset for a business approach to government.

Politics “as usual”, including negative politicians with their mudslinging, conflicts of interest and focus on what is best for themselves, does not serve the people. Elections over the past year confirm that history is already turning the page on the establishment of old school politicians like Arlen Specter.

Simply put, I am not a politician. I am a businessman, a firefighter, and a community leader who has a single agenda, “Serve the families of North Fulton.” I am a proud conservative supporting the Tea Party movement. I’m a member of GeorgiaCarry, the NRA and the Heritage Foundation. I believe in our founding principles and agree that now is the time to get back to basics. I have the time, passion and energy to serve you.

Join us to make a real difference in our state and in our lives. This election will decide who represents North Fulton and the decisions made will make a real difference for the lives of us all. Your choice will impact the economy, job creation, making education a priority, really fixing transportation and making Milton County a reality.

Tired of politics as usual? So am I and with your help we will make it right.

Vote John Albers for State Senate!

Congressman Tom Price Endorses Karen Handel

Congressman Tom Price switched his support from Nathan Deal to Karen yesterday and created quite a buzz. Tom is highly respected in the 6th District, across our state and nationally as a conservative leader. In endorsing Karen he said:

“Karen Handel has demonstrated the strength, courage and leadership in business and public office that we desperately need in the next Governor of our great state of Georgia. Karen is not only the best candidate to win the nomination and take on Roy Barnes and the Democrats in November, but she will also be a wonderful Governor for our state.”

Read all about Tom’s endorsement here.

Columbia County Straw Poll a Big Win for Karen

Following a spirited debate in Columbia County on Saturday, Karen won an important straw poll. Obviously the attendees liked what they saw and heard. The results were:

Handel: 36%
Deal: 32%
EJ: 27%
Ox: 4%

The Columbia County Young Republicans organized the event and they are to be commended for barring Ray McBerry from attending. They made a conscientious stand in denying a platform to this man who does not represent the values of the Republican Party and the people of Georgia.

Help Continue the Momentum

The addition of Congressman Price to our team is just another indicator that Karen clearly has the momentum in the race. Nathan Deal is clearly worried, as his response was to attack Tom Price’s integrity and charge Karen with an old, untrue statement. We will see more of this as our opponents get more desperate.

We need your help to respond to the attacks that are coming. Please make a donation to Karen today. Your contribution will help us spread Karen’s message of job creation, ethical leadership, cutting spending and improving education.

Thank you for your support of Karen Handel for Governor.

Moody Endorses Albers for GA Senate District 56

Albers, the leading candidate for the Georgia State Senate for District 56, is proud to announce that retiring Senator Dan Moody, who has tirelessly and steadfastly served the people of North Fulton County in the State Senate for the last 8 years, has strongly endorsed John Albers to be his successor.

The announcement was made this morning at the North Fulton GOP breakfast at Horseshoe Bend Country Club.

Said Senator Moody, “I am extremely proud to endorse John Albers in the campaign to be our next State Senator. Serving in the Senate has been a great honor and it has reinforced my commitment to supporting leaders with a deep commitment to serving others over self. In both his professional and personal life, John has demonstrated a consistent commitment to serving others. He will truly be a “Customer Service” Senator who will serve the families of North Fulton faithfully and effectively.”

Albers thanked Moody for his service and his confidence. He then proceeded to tell the Senator of how much he would be missed. Said Albers, “My inspiration to run for this office and my model for how to lead effectively is Dan Moody. Dan has been a tireless advocate for all the people of North Fulton. I look forward to continuing his proud tradition of leadership and service.”

Moody’s endorsement comes on the heels of Albers impressive debate performances and continues the surge of grassroots support that John is receiving all across North Fulton. John has and will continue to be the candidate of choice, who has chosen to run on the issues and not false negative attacks.

Albers Promotes Contract for Milton County

John Albers, the leading Republican candidate for State Senate District 56, will announce at the Roswell City Council meeting this evening a new initiative to help North Fulton by promoting a “Contract for Milton County”. The Contract is a pledge for all elected officials, candidates and engaged citizens to sign that commits them to promoting workable solutions to enact and pushing for the creation of Milton County.

HR21, a resolution to begin the process for the creation of Milton County was unable to secure enough votes for passage this year. The winner of the Senate 56 contest will be a pivotal figure in the passage or continued failure of this effort.

Said Albers, “Like so many other North Fulton leaders, I am disappointed in the outcome of HR21, but this temporary setback only refocuses all of the families on North Fulton on the need for committed leadership to make Milton County a reality. Regardless of my personal election, I am pushing forward by providing leadership on this critical issue by starting this Contract for Milton County initiative to build even broader support that will continue on regardless of who wins the election.”

“While other candidates talk about Milton County, I am putting action and commitment behind it and seeking to mobilize even more support to secure passage next year. I support our North Fulton delegation and all their hard to make this a reality. They need our support and focus to keep this issue moving and start separating our services now.”

This contract which can be found and signed online at: www.contractformiltoncounty.com. Several town hall meetings have been scheduled as well as appearance throughout North Fulton to get citizens involved. The Contract for Milton County will be an ongoing call to action to have a more responsive local government that provides quality public services.

“Being a State Senator takes a substantial commitment of time and energy, I make that commitment. I have consistently demonstrated involvement in our community. Once elected, I will work tirelessly to serve the families in North Fulton and make Milton County a reality. I look forward to being North Fulton’s customer service State Senator.”

SAM OLENS VOWS TO CHALLENGE HEATH CARE BILL IF ELECTED GEORGIA ATTORNEY GENERAL

Sam Olens, Republican candidate for Georgia Attorney General, released this statement this morning:

“Today is a terrible day in our country’s history. As your next Attorney General, I will do everything legally and constitutionally possible to fight the federal takeover and implementation of heath care. I would join AG’s from states across the county to file lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of this Leviathan.

“As a State Attorney General is it your constitutional duty to protect the rights of Georgia’s citizens and the sovereignty of the state. This bill contains federal mandates and provisions that are unconstitutional and must be challenged.

“I commend the current AG’s of South Carolina, Florida and Virginia who have taken the lead and I challenge all current state AG’s and AG candidates for this important office to tell the voters what they would do if elected. In Georgia, it will be incumbent on the next AG to lead the fight for future generations.”

STATE SEN. HAWKINS CALLS GRAVES “JOBS BILL” A SHAM

CONTACT: Lee Hawkins for Congress

(678) 897-1409 or (678) 316-2020

STATE SEN. HAWKINS CALLS GRAVES “JOBS BILL” A SHAM, CALLS FOR HONEST CONSERVATIVE SOLUTIONS TO CREATE JOBS

CUMMING, Ga. – Republican candidate for Congress State Sen. Lee Hawkins said Friday that a bill being promoted as a “jobs” bill by State Rep. Tom Graves is a sham and, urged legislators to replace it with Hawkins’ own jobs bill.

“Graves’ so-called jobs bill is a sham,” said Hawkins. “His legislation contains fine print that would only allow it to take effect if there is a budget surplus in the state of Georgia. But he knows full well that today we have more than a billion dollar deficit, and we are years away from having a budget surplus. It won’t create a single job. It’s just another fake gimmick that politicians have used for years to trick voters.”

“Georgians demand real tax cuts and a genuine plan to create jobs. They want genuine conservative leadership and genuine tax cuts.”

“This legislation is like so much of what comes from Washington politicians from both parties. It’s time for real conservative tax cuts, not more fake legislation designed to get people elected to office. “

“We need tax cuts, this year, to spur job creation, not years from now,” said Hawkins. Hawkins has led and is supporting an alternative jobs bill of tax cuts that would take immediate effect in fiscal year 2010 and would spur immediate creation of jobs. Hawkins bill, which is starting in the State House as HB 1204, will help employers begin creating jobs immediately. Hawkins will be the Senate sponsor.

Hawkins, a candidate for Georgia’s Ninth district congressional seat, further stated that last year he had supported the 2009 Senate version of the JOBS bill. “It was very different from what later passed the House, but neither 2009 version contained the $500 million surplus requirement.”
