John, As a Republican, I know you have to fight for less government, but take a moment to consider the toll of Georgia 400. By keeping this toll, it assures the residents of north Fulton and beyond a mechanism that will insure that Lyndon Johnson's Poverty Road is able to take care of itself in coming years. The north end of the limited access already needs reworking at Ga 369 which is a main thoroughfare for traffic coming across the top end from I-75 at Cartersville and heading toward I-85. Traffic jams are huge and the frequent accidents leave northbound GA 400 motorists stranded for several miles southward. The toll money could solve this with an overpass. It could also be used for a rail line to the end of 400 in Lumpkin County which would take traffic off he road and keep it from needing to be widened again and again. The DOT is out of money and your fellow legislators are too yellow to raise the gas tax so funding the many projects the department has on the books will drag on like that on GA 141.
When this road began, Pres. Johnson's anti poverty program saw an area of southern Appalachia that was very poor and one that could be linked to prosperous Atlanta by a good road. Even lake-front property on Lanier was bringing $3,000 an acre. Look what GA 400 has done for the area. Please don't let our republican Party's mantra about lower taxes and smaller government keep you from doing what is right. Sonny, bless his heart, got it right this time.

Don't discount Eric yet. He's been all over this great BIG state & the people will come out to vote for him. I've known him & his family for over 30 years & there isn't a better person to stand in the gap for us. If you haven't made a decision for GA Insurance Comm, my husband John Mamalakis is running. I believe alot of people won't vote for him because of the same reasons you gave for Eric. I believe it's time for us to vote for the MOST qualified & trustworthy candidates & not try to determine the outcome. I'm praying we'll both be surprised tonight :-)
